Community Centre

I have lived in Haywards Heath all of my life (49 years) and Clair Hall has played a significant part.

As a small child I remember my family being part of the 'Keep Britain in Europe' campaign - and photos being taken outside Clair Hall.

I went to birthday parties there, community discos in the school holidays, performed there regularly as part of Haywards Heath Scout and Guide Band. I had my own 18th birthday there and went to many others. I've since attended 40th birthday parties there!

We've enjoyed watching films there on cinema nights, comedians and other performers - such a treat to have them come to us locally!

My daughter is part of a local theatre group who put on a brilliant pantomime there every year. And my kids have attended events for multiple schools there.

Most recently I'm volunteering there as part of the covid vaccination programme. How lucky are we to have this space!

Community space is very difficult to find now - for bands (adult and youth)and scout groups not to mention other groups - for regular meetings - let alone for performance opportunities. With The Martletts gone there is literally nowhere else locally for us to enjoy or take part in cultural events.

I can see it needs developing and to be multifunctional - but we must look after this asset.
