This community centre is essential
I can not believe that our local council could even contemplate the closure, even if only temporary, of this facility that is there to provide a wide range of activities for the people of Haywards Heath and the surrounding Area.
Such a facility is essential for the ever growing town, it must be retained. It has been allowed to deteriorate by a lack of care and maintenance. Every element has its usage and could be made much more of, given the right management.
Its worth can not be calculated by a pure monetary value, it is a facility for the people paid for by the people. If it runs at a loss, look to the management and invest in making the building more attractive.
Let this not be an example of selling off the family silver to overcome a short fall in revenue. I can see greedy Developers straining at their leash to get there hands on this site to make a quick profit at the town's everlasting loss.
The site is very valuable, but it is also the best location for the continuation of its present usage, being close to public transport and the town. The car park gives access to the adjacent park and sporting facilities as well as supporting the usage of the Community Centre.
Not to be overlooked is Redwood Centre located at the rear of Clair Hall, once used by Age Concern but now a very vibrant centre for young people, it is the location for Mid Sussex Scouts, a childcare day nursery, a Sunday church and much more.
