Background

In Spring 2020, we asked local people what we could do to improve St Johns Park in Burgess Hill. Landscape Architects prepared draft designs based on the feedback we received.

The designs showed long term plans for how the space could be improved over time.

In Summer 2020, people had the chance to comment on the design and say what their priorities were. Our Landscape Architects have considered everyone’s comments and made minor changes to reflect the views we heard. They have also recommended which of the improvement projects to prioritise based on the most popular ones chosen.

We are using those plans and the estimated delivery costs, to secure funding.

We are excited to announce the launch of a public consultation to help shape a brand‑new play area and skate park for children and young people in St Johns Park.

We want to make sure these new facilities reflect what local families, children, young people, and community groups really want. Whether you use play areas and skate parks regularly or simply care about improving community spaces, your views are important.

    What we’re asking

We’d like to hear what you think about St Johns Park now and what you would like to be able to do there in the future.

    How to take part

You can share your thoughts by completing our short online survey.

    Why your feedback matters

Your input will help us design an inclusive, modern, and exciting space that children and young people can enjoy for years to come.

    Closing date

    The consultation runs until Easter.

Surveyors will be in St John’s Park during the week of 12 January 2026 for a few days. They will be using a Total Station to map the park and a drone to capture updated aerial photographs. This information will help our design team as the project progresses.

We’re pleased to share that funding has been secured to replace the riding surface of the vandalised skate ramps in St Johns Park.

To reduce the risk of injury, our grounds maintenance contractor will remove the damaged surface on Tuesday 14th October. The new ramp surface will be installed starting 22nd October, with works expected to take approximately four weeks to complete.

This improvement does not affect our longer-term goal of a full skate park and playground renovation. We’re grateful to Burgess Hill Youth Council for sharing their views, and we look forward to launching a wider public consultation in the future

Funding has been secured to deliver the first phase of the masterplan for St Johns Park. This will involve the facilities provided for children and young people.

We hope to consult with people who would like to use the park, later in the spring and summer of 2025. Designs will follow after that.

Currently we don’t expect work to start on the ground until at least Spring 2027 but check back here for updates!
