Project update – May

An independent post-installation inspection identified no safety concerns, so the fence has been removed and the play area is now open.

Landscaping

We’ve seen some landscaping issues since completion, particularly with new turf that has not established well in the unseasonably dry weather. We are working with our contractors to address this as quickly as possible. A maintenance programme is in place, and we will continue to monitor the site as it settles to keep the park welcoming and well maintained.

Basketball area surface

Residents asked for a basketball hoop for both children and adults, and we are pleased to have provided one. The surrounding area cannot be tarmacked because the site is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and within the South Downs National Park, so materials and methods are required to meet relevant environmental and planning requirements, including measures to minimise flood risk. The current surface is therefore designed to reflect the character of the area. You may also notice there is no net; this is to reduce the risk of entanglement and because nets are not long-lasting.

Keeping up with the maintenance

Our contractor is visiting on a regular basis to ensure the area is well maintained, and they will be visiting regularly to cut the grass

We hope that residents enjoy the new equipment and thank you for your patience as the site settles.
