A further 2,000 households have now joined our new 1-2-3 waste collection service! All homes have now received a food waste pack, two new bins, and an updated waste collection calendar.

With the 1-2-3 collection service you are now recycling over 70% of your household waste. Plus, homes with the 1-2-3 service reduce their residual waste by an average of 2.2kg a week.

The new service provides a weekly kerbside collection of food waste in a bid to eliminate food from their general rubbish bin. The areas chosen contain a mix of housing types within different locations in order to include as much variation as possible.

The collection service is as follows:

  1. Every week: food waste collections in your new green food waste bin
  1. Every two weeks: recycling collections in your existing, blue-lidded wheelie bin
  1. Every three weeks: rubbish collections in your existing, black-lidded wheelie bin

Please note, there is no change to the current recycling collection provided to all residents or to those who pay for the garden waste subscription service.

We will be using the information we gather and the feedback we receive from this page, to help plan for a roll-out across the District over the next couple of years.

We hope this page covers all the information you need regarding your new collection service. For any other concerns, questions or information about your waste collection, please visit:https://www.midsussex.gov.uk/waste-recycling/

Thank you for your enquiry. Garden waste collections have not changed. You can check for scheduled garden collections here:  Bin Collection - Mid Sussex District Council

We don’t supply compostable liners, but you can purchase compostable liners from most supermarkets and local stores, or you could use old newspapers to line the bottom of the caddy instead. If you choose to use compostable liners, please check they are compostable or have a code EN 13432. They may also have the seedling logo as per our FAQs online. This means they comply with the right standards. If you choose not to use compostable liners, we recommend giving your indoor and outdoor caddies regular cleaning to remove any residue left behind. Please do not use plastic liners, bread bags, sandwich or storage bags, carrier bags or any other plastic (even if it states it is recyclable).

    How can I enroll

John Strachan asked 4 months ago

If you have received a bin hanger, you are automatically enrolled and your new collection will start on the date listed on your bin hanger.

The bin hanger you received will have the start date of your new collection service on. You will also receive a calendar in due course. Your new green food waste bin is much smaller than the garden waste bin. I hope this helps!
