Mid Sussex District Council is undertaking a programme of work to review the provision and management of a number of small, recently adopted residential play parks in Burgess Hill.
The three sites are located close to one another and were originally installed in the 1990s as part of nearby housing developments. In recent years, they have been transferred to Mid Sussex District Council to maintain. By the time they came into Council ownership, some of the equipment and surfaces had already begun to deteriorate.
These are places where children play, families spend time together, neighbours meet and communities enjoy the outdoors. We want to make sure they remain safe, welcoming and maintained to the standard residents rightly expect.
Reviewing these sites together helps us make the best use of the funding available while ensuring residents continue to have access to nearby play opportunities and valuable green spaces. The funding available for these parks, which was provided by the original developer as part of the transfer to the Council, is not sufficient to replace play equipment at all three locations. While no green space is being lost, some sites will need to change to ensure they remain safe, well-maintained and valuable for the local community.
As part of planned works to local parks in Burgess Hill, we are seeking residents' views on the future of Chaffinch Close. You can read more about what changes are being made to Temple Grove and Primrose Close, including voting for which new play equipment you would like to see at Temple Grove, via the main page of this project via the Engagement Hub.
While new play equipment is not planned for this site, Chaffinch Close will remain a public open space. We would like to better understand how local people use the space now and what benefits they would like it to provide in the future. Your feedback will help inform any future plans for the site.
This consultation will remain open until Thursday 20 August.
As well as taking part online, you can speak to Council officers at an informal drop-in session at Chaffinch Close on Wednesday 29 July, from 12pm to 3pm. This will be an opportunity to ask questions and share your ideas for the future of the space.
Thank you for taking the time to get involved and help shape the future of this local community space.

As part of planned works to local parks in Burgess Hill, we will install a new piece of play equipment at Temple Grove park. We would like local residents to help choose which option is installed.
We have identified four options and we would like local residents to help choose which one should be installed.
Each option offers a different type of play experience and are aimed at different ages, so before making your choice, please take a look at the images and information below.
This consultation will remain open until Thursday 20th August.
Once the consultation closes, we will review the feedback received and select the preferred option. We will then work with the chosen supplier to order the equipment and arrange installation, which is currently expected to take place in spring 2027.
Thank you for taking the time to share your views and help shape the future of this local play area.
