Clair Hall is an invaluable community resource which myself my family and myself have enjoyed the use of over the past 35 years and continue to do so. We have attended many entertaining performances, stand up nights, yoga classes, art classes, parties and choir practices; the latter taking place in the only venue in H.H. large enough to accommodate our 120 plus members. It would be a massive loss to close this community hub, especially now with our quickly expanding population. Clair Hall's most recent use as the Covid vaccination site is testament to this. To jettison this important resource would be nothing short of reprehensible.
Entertainment and Celebrations Venue
I first visited Clair Hall when I was living in Burgess Hill about 20 years ago when I went to watch a colleague performing in a local drama group production of Oklahoma, and later Cabaret. A perfect venue for groups such as that to perform at and convenient for local people to attend and support them. I have since tried to buy tickets for comedy shows put on there but didn't get them before they sold out!
I have lived in Haywards Heath for the last 14 years. In 2014 we held a 30th birthday party for my daughter and were able to invite as many friends and family as she wanted there. It was a perfect venue. When I saw the Premier Inn go up I thought we could hold further celebratory events there and our friends and family who do not live locally would have somewhere to stay. However, no sooner was the hotel built than the news came that Clair Hall was to go. So disappointing.
I have also visited Clair Hall to vote in elections on many occasions and I have been there to learn about town planning projects e.g. regarding Waitrose and station entrance. As another story mentions, it has been a great venue for Covid testing and vaccinations recently. It is ideally situated being near the station, Waitrose and Sainsbury's and many offices for this purpose, and has good parking facilities for others who do not live quite so centrally. I think if the building cannot be reburfished, something similar should be built on the site.
