Oh How We Need A Clair Hall!

I have lived in the area for over forty years and Clair hall has always been an excellent Community Facility in exactly the right location. Multiple halls make it perfect for large and small events; from fully fledged theatrical, choral and orchestral performances as well as cinema shows, to smaller meetings and private events. I have performed on the stage, attended many shows and meetings and am active in the staging of Haywards Heath Ceramics Group regular meetings. The Group has been around for nearly forty years, meetings taking place in Clair Hall for many of those years. Our current membership of close on seventy is predominantly older and having all facilities on the same floor is so helpful. Members and Speakers attend by car, train and bus…all catered for by Clair Hall’s car park and its proximity to rail and bus transportation. Following the precipitate “closure” of Clair Hall, we launched an extensive search for an alternative venue. Suggestions by MSDC that they would help in the search for alternative venues never materialised…a survey was initiated, completed by our Ceramics Group, but nothing emerged. None of the venues we identified provided all of the requirements currently met by Clair Hall, most met few of them. The few “possibles” which were explored further, could not meet our timing requirements as they were already fully committed. We need a Clair Hall with its facilities and location, preserved for the Community and Societies such as our Ceramics Group.

We moved here in 2017 and we’re really pleased that Clair Hall was available as a community hub. We attended a handful of musical evenings and the Gryff Rees Jones gig. Desperately disappointed that The Covids arrived before Mark Steel!

Here’s a suggestion. Upgrade the venue, and provide enough funds to enable its use to be transformed quickly into a life saving centre against future pandemics.

Don’t try to fix what ain’t broke. Clair Hall should remain the beating heart for this community’s cultural wellbeing.
