Saturday parkrun
As one of the organisers of the local parkrun which takes place every Saturday morning at 9am in Clair Park, we have been fortunate since our first event in 2013 to have the use of Clair Hall facilities, including toilets and car parking. Each Saturday, we have between 150 – 200 people attend our 5k parkrun event. The provision of toilets is a major boost to the true inclusiveness of the event, enabling attendance by those who might not otherwise attend.
We were permitted to restart holding parkrun at Clair Park in July although without the use of toilets for the obvious reason that Clair Hall had become a vaccination centre. Whilst we were delighted to return, the loss of these facilities (which could become permanent should Clair Hall close for good) acts as a barrier to inclusivity at our event.
About parkrun: parkruns are free, weekly, community events all around the world. It is a positive, welcoming and inclusive experience where there is no time limit and no one finishes last. Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate.
