Background
In Autumn 2021, we asked local people what we could do to improve London Road Recreation Ground inHassocks. Landscape Architects prepared draft designs based onthe feedback we received.
The designs showed long term plans for how the space could be improved over time.
In Spring 2022, people had the chance to comment on the design and say what their priorities were. Our Landscape Architects have considered everyone’s comments and made minor changes to reflect the views we heard. They have also recommended which of the improvement projects to prioritise based on the most popular ones chosen.
Following public consultation, in 2022 we shared the draft masterplan which included 9 potential improvement projects.
People were asked to tell us which two of the project ideas they’d most like to see.
In order of popularity these were:
Adventure Playspace
Informal play / skate bike trail
All weather paths and loops
Community hub and plaza
Youth zone / facilities
Larger, improved car park
Improved pitch drainage
Swales and wetland vegetation
Meadows and native planting
We are pleased to say, that we now have funding to implement the top three priorities which were clearly the most important to people last time.
These align with Council priorities and will provide improvements for a wide variety of park users from families with young children, to young people starting to be independent and those who just want to be able to walk around the recreation ground without getting muddy.
Take the survey to let us know which improvement project you are most looking forward to seeing, and don’t forget to Subscribe to stay up to date, and to be the first to hear when we launch the next stage of consultation!
